New logistics center in Polch handed over on schedule

On Monday, November 13, 2023, after around one year of construction, the new logistics center in Polch was handed over to V&B Fliesen GmbH as planned. This means that the new halls, offices and the new showroom, which was developed by Lang & Cie. Industrial AG and designed by Frankfurt architects KLEINUNDARCHITEKTEN and implemented by the Goldbeck Group, was put into operation on schedule.

“We have been planning and preparing intensively for three years, and today we are kicking off a new era in terms of logistics performance,” emphasizes Dirk Wuschech, Head of Supply Chain Management at V&B Fliesen GmbH. “We will already be operating from deliveries to our customers from our new logistics site in Polch at the beginning of 2024. The ramp-up phase with the first storage operations has begun.”

The new logistics halls are equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The first driverless transport systems are already up and running, and two vertical lifts for efficient picking have been installed. The order picking stations and the fully automated high-bay warehouse will be put into operation in the coming weeks. The handover of the new premises also marks the start of cooperation with the logistics division of the ELSEN Group, which is the main user of the building complex alongside V&B Fliesen GmbH.

From its new logistics location, V&B Fliesen GmbH will be able to offer its customers an even better, more flexible and faster service. The building is certified for sustainable construction with DGNB Gold standard. It offers 40,000 square meters of storage space, which is the equivalent of 5.5 soccer pitches.

To ensure sustainable operation of the building complex, a photovoltaic system is installed on the roof surfaces, which supplies the building with electricity and feeds excess capacity into the public power grid. Located directly near the A 48, the logistics center has excellent transport connections.

Thus, transport routes are optimized and CO2 emissions are reduced by more than 12 percent or 620 tons per year. With the commissioning of the new warehouse in Polch, V&B Fliesen GmbH is opening a new chapter in its company history. Following the motto “Creating Future Together”, the long-standing ceramic manufacturer is undergoing an extensive transformation process, which aims to consistently ensure the company’s new customer centricity.
