These design principles, which have emerged over time at Villeroy&Boch, have a significant influence on the spatial culture and the way people feel and behave in these spaces. Due to its long history, Villeroy&Boch Tiles has actively helped to develop European spatial culture with its German-French influences on tile products – and thus created tile culture.
Tile culture represents not only the craftsmanship and aesthetic development of tile production, but also the cultural diversity and historical wealth of various societies that have used tiles as an expression of their identity and artistic vision. The artistic identity of Villeroy&Boch tiles is based on the approach to beautifying space and was significantly influenced by the aristocratic roots of the families and their strong connection to nature. From this, formative developments emerged in the area of noble classical or more rustic rural, the styles of which were later simply summarized as ‘classic’ and ‘country’ – and were supplemented by the ‘metropolitan’ style in the 90s.
