In the Leonardo Hotel at the Olympic Park in Munich, Villeroy&Boch’s CENTURY UNLIMITED tile collection creates a modern, contemporary ambience. The floor features a tone-on-tone design of beige, light and medium gray tiles in 60 x 60 cm. In addition, a mosaic is used to particularly highlight individual areas in the lobby, including the area in front of the reception or the waiting area. Overall, the subtle cotto-cement look of the tiles gives the room an inviting, comfortably atmosphere that corresponds with the sophisticated style of the guest house.
In Völklingen, Saarland, the historical significance of the surroundings merges with the interior design of the Leonardo Hotel to form a complex of themes. The fine coordination of tiles and spatial architecture allows to almost tangibly understand the history of the Völklingen coalfield. The metallic-looking FIRE & ICE tiles in the lobby of the hotel symbolize the intensely busy heat in what was then the Völklingen Ironworks and which is now an industrial monument of international importance as a World Heritage Site. The colors of the multi-colored rust-colored porcelain tiles are reflected in large-format photos of the cabin, as if they were part of the historic site.
The tile design in the hotel is thoughtfully coordinated with the interior. This is evident even in the elevator, where an abstract portrait of a coal shaft complements the fiery, warm color of FIRE & ICE. The breakfast area is accentuated with a FIRE & ICE chessboard, and in the bathrooms, a large format of the collection X-PLANE combines high functional properties – such as slip resistance in the shower – with subtle aesthetics.
