Hospitality

A connection to the homeland, a lot of attention to detail and a big pinch of frills: In Rettenberg am Grünten, a mountain hotel has been built at an altitude of 1,150 m, where tradition meets iconic curiosities from all over the world. Also included: tiles from Villeroy&Boch, which conjure up an authentic lumberjack look in the guest bathrooms.

KUKU Berghotel Allgäu

Tiles from Villeroy&Boch interpret the flannel shirt look

At home in the Allgäu. At home in the world of curiosities. This statement sums up the spatial concept of the KUKU Berghotel in Rettenberg in the Allgäu. The inspiration for the extraordinary interior design comes from the fictional legend of three brothers who traveled far away full of curiosity and returned home years later with their impressions and all sorts of souvenirs. The twelve lovingly furnished guest rooms with two to five beds are dedicated to the theme worlds of alpine farmers, lumberjacks and poachers: the alpine farmers’ rooms invite you to snooze between the Alps and the Andes with a mix of Alpine clarity and Peruvian flair, while the colorful ones in the poachers’ rooms Colors of the savannah give the rustic, down-to-earth feeling that certain something. The Holzer rooms are romantic and rustic, where the pure wilderness, vast nature and huge forests of Canada meet the equally spectacular landscape in the Oberallgäu.

Tiles laid in a checkered pattern

The focus of the interior design is the theme of wood: maple and spruce give the rooms an irresistible, original atmosphere – genuine, genuine and at the same time stunningly modern and stylish. The design concept extends consistently to the bathrooms, where strong rusty orange tones and warm creamy beige seem to capture the mood of Indian summer. A washbasin bowl with a black wall-mounted spout fitting on a straight-lined, functional console is reminiscent of the simple life of lumberjacks, for whom well water and a simple bowl of bathroom equipment were enough. A special highlight: the original wall design with Villeroy&Boch tiles. Squares in black, gray and red from the professional series PRO ARCHITECTURA 3.0 interpret the typical checked lumberjack shirt made of soft flannel in matt ceramic – and so successfully that the window niches in the rooms were also designed with them.
