Two innovative design concepts from Villeroy & Boch Tiles have been honored with the prestigious German Design Award 2025. The TRI.ART series, which combines three authentic stone looks with an artistic décor concept, and SOLID TONES, a professional modular system for architectural design, impressed the jury and won the Winner title in the “Excellent Product Design / Building and Elements” category. These two high-quality tile series not only continue Villeroy & Boch Tiles’ long-standing success in the German Design Award, but also stand out as internationally influential and trend-setting designs.
With its timeless and elegant design, the TRI.ART series revives Villeroy & Boch’s aesthetic heritage by offering glazed ceramic wall tiles and VilboStone porcelain tiles for both wall and floor applications. Authentic, antique stone patterns merge with decorations inspired by Venetian fabrics and meticulously crafted relief textures, creating a sophisticated heritage look. The combination of stone textures and textile motifs, uniting natural stone aesthetics with floral-ornamental designs, is ideal for a refined interior concept that seamlessly blends traditional and modern design elements. This unique design language is perfect not only for luxury residential projects but also for high-end hotels, offices, clinics, and retail spaces. The large-format wall and floor tiles particularly highlight the captivating charm of high-quality ceramics.
The SOLID TONES series is a versatile porcelain tile collection designed as a comprehensive color and format concept for contemporary architecture. The collection features three material aesthetics – Stone, Concrete, and Grain – all available in six coordinated colors, ranging from warm light tones to cool dark shades within the beige-gray spectrum. Each texture and color can be installed individually or combined, offering endless possibilities for harmonious tone-on-tone compositions or striking contrasts.
Additionally, up to 12 formats are available, from 10 x 10 cm mosaics to 60 x 120 cm large formats. All formats come with a R10/B slip resistance rating, ensuring safe use in residential, commercial, and public spaces. The 30 x 60 cm format is also available in R11/C.
Due to its great success and to better meet the specific requirements of architects and designers, the SOLID TONES series has already been updated twice. From 2025, the range will be expanded with glazed ceramic wall tiles in two formats and four colors, perfectly matched to the existing porcelain tiles. Additionally, 60 x 60 cm porcelain tiles with a 2 cm thickness will be introduced in two stone-look colors, featuring R11/B slip resistance, making them ideal for high-traffic areas and outdoor applications. Selected Grain formats will also be available with pressed edges and slip resistance ratings up to R12/V4, making SOLID TONES even more flexible for creative design and planning.
The prestigious German Design Award has been presented by the Rat für Formgebung (German Design Council) since 2012. This organization is recognized as one of the world’s leading competence centers for design, brand strategy, and innovation. Only entries nominated by the German Design Council, one of its foundation members, or the economic ministries of the German federal states are eligible to participate. A panel of expert judges evaluates and rewards submissions based on their design quality.
